On behalf of the International Network of Social Work in Health and Mental Health, we are pleased to present its Fifth International Conference to be held in Hong Kong, China during 10 to 14 December 2006. It will be the first time, since the Network was founded, that the Conference is held in the Asian region.

We invite you to join with a team of passionate practitioners and researchers worldwide to witness some of the most exciting developments in the discipline.

Looking forward to seeing you in 2006, Hong Kong, China.

As globalization progresses in ever-increasing pace, our differences emerge and our tensions surface. While clashes between nations and peoples threaten world stability, daily conflicts in workplaces and neighborhoods jeopardize our own inner peace.

However uncaring and uncertain the world seems to us, we see the potential for the social work profession to become a center of gravity that pulls together different fabrics of the society, a potent force that creates harmony within.

Along with the Conference theme, a broad range of sub-themes and topics include:

  • Culture
  • Social Policy
  • Spirituality
  • Population Group
  • Gender
  • Trauma and Resilience
  • Psychsocial Oncology
  • Disease Specific Groups (e.g. SARS, HIV-AIDS)

These sub-themes will provide strong anchors for fruitful discussions and exchanges!

The Fifth Conference will build on the fruits of the previous four Conferences and continue our valued tradition of deep sharing: ideas and experiences, practices and researches.

Embedded with both Eastern and Western traditions, the Conference offers the optimal environment in which culturally relevant intervention models could be experimented with both scientifc rigor and indigenous Eastern vigor.

Idea and Experience
Practice and Research

The Conference will also be a valuable opportunity for professions to stay current of state-of-the-art research and practice models in the field of social work, as well as to network with like-minded fellow professions around the world.

As in previous conferences, keynote and plenary sessions, seminars and workshops will form the basic structure of the scientific programme. Additional field visits will give participants a taste of how East meets West through various health and clinical practices.

In addition to the scientific programme, a series of social programme will be tailored for our participants. You will have a leisurely and unforgettable experience while staying in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is a city proud of both its cultural traditions and technological advances. Famous for its round-the-clock shopping and exquisite gourmet, you might also like to explore the cityˇ¦s less known but equally splendid hiking trails in one of its scenic country parks and outlying islands.

Come discover the City and feel its breathtaking rhythms!
