Social Determinants of Health — 21st Century Social Work Priorities

Dr Gary ROSENBERG, Professor, The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, USA

Gary Rosenberg, Ph.D., is currently the Edith J. Baerwald Professor of Community Medicine and Preventive Medicine, and Chairman of the Division of Social Work and Behavioral Science at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His previous position was as Executive Vice President of the Mount Sinai Medical Center and he was a member of the senior management staff for 28 years. Dr. Rosenberg is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Outstanding Alumni Award from Hunter College and Adelphi University, and the Founders Day Award from New York University. He is a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and a member of the Social Work Pioneers Group. Dr. Rosenberg maintains an active role on non-profit boards and is the President of the Board of the Center for Social Administration, President of the Board of Senior Health Partners, and a member of the Board of Directors of Union Settlement and Job Path, an agency serving mentally retarded and developmentally disabled adults. Dr. Rosenberg is the Editor-in-Chief of two peer-reviewed journals on health policy and practices and on mental health. He has written or edited 12 books, 22 book chapters and is the author of over 60 articles in professional peer-reviewed journals.

 

Health and Mental health: A Core Concern for Social Work Education and Practice

Ms Imelda DODDS, Immediate Past President, IFSW, AUSTRALIA

Ms Imelda Dodds is the President of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and is also a part time member of the NSW Guardianship Tribunal. Ms Dodds is a social worker and consultant specialising in the fields of social policy, disability, and guardianship. She has a strong commitment to the goals of IFSW and to the critical role of social work in the international community and to the pursuit of our commitment to the principles of social justice and a tolerant and peaceful civil society. She is also a passionate advocate of furthering a strong relationship between social work practice and the schools of social work. Ms Dodds has extensive experience as a social worker, policy advisor and administrator. She established the Office of the Public Guardian (now Public Advocate) in Western Australia. Until July 2000 she was the Executive Director of the Autism Association of New South Wales. Earlier she held positions of A/Regional Director, Program Manager and Chief Social Worker in the then Department for Intellectually Handicapped Persons, WA.
