Workshop Description:
The two day workshop will provide the participants
with the theoretical background, research findings
and different intervention approach for children in
grief. We view grief as a normal life cycle event
that is best understood in a relational context. Given
this approach we will look at how children mourn and
explore what help is need to facilitate mourners living
through this experience. The concepts of competency
and resilience as they add to our understanding of
how people grieve will be intertwined throughout the
presentation. The nature of help in this context will
be threaded throughout as well. Data from research
in these areas will be brought together with clinical
experience to look at how these two areas of practice
influence each other and consider what interventions
are most useful in various settings. Lectures, discussion,
exercises and video show will be used in the workshop.
